In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Department of Health (DOH) emphasized the importance of regular self-breast exam and the critical role of screening in the early detection and treatment of breast cancer among women.

Worldwide, September is Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month. This observance “promotes thyroid cancer awareness for early detection, care based on expert standards, and increased research to achieve cures for all thyroid cancer,” according to its initiating organization, Thyroid Cancer Survivors’ Association.

According to the Philippine Cancer Society, the annual mortality rate due to prostate cancer in the Philippines has increased by 122.5% since 1990, indicating an average of 5.3% a year. This alarming incidence has been recognized by DOH and declared the month of June as “Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.”
